I am getting a new laptop which will be eligible for a free windows 7 home premium upgrade.

I also have windows xp on my desktop, will I be able to use the same serial number on my laptop and desktop?

Also, I have read that windows 7 uses less memory, etc and is faster just like xp.

    Probably not. With both Vista and XP they set up license servers that allow the key to be used only on one computer. Windows 7 will probably be the same.

    No. Only one computer will get activated per key.

    Each key is good for one computer at a time. If you want to move Windows 7 from one to another, you must first uninstall Windows 7 before moving it to the other computer.
