windows 7 home premium

Is it possible to upgrade from Windows Vista Home Basic to Windows 7 Home Premium?

Please provide a link to any website that can confirm this if its possible.

Cheers
The question is regarding Windows 7 when it becomes available in retail stores, not the current beta. Thanks.

you should be able to once it’s available at retail. the betas that are available now (no longer) don’t upgrade, only totally clean install. you can visit microsoft and look into system requirements etc., but until the testing is done, nothing is final…

when it’s a vailable, you can visit the ‘anytime upgrade’ page at microsoft for the cost details. since it’s not out yet, these figures probably aren’t either.

Considering that OS is still in Beta testing,
I’m gonna go ahead and say.. at this point..
probably not. When it is released.. sure..
you’ll be able to do that.

Of course. You can even upgrade from Windows Xp to Windows 7.
A fresh install is recommended though (mostly because of potential driver issues which you will overcome this way).

    Microsoft hasn’t formally indicated.

You’d likely be able to do it on a software level, but it would be very strongly recommended to do a fresh install anyway.

Whether or not you’d get an upgrade discount isn’t clear yet.

You’re largely just going to have to wait for Microsoft themselves to make formal announcements, likely by this summer when their upgrade system for new computers is expected to initiate, or perhaps something around this coming May 5 when the Release Candidate goes out to the public.

(And no, you cannot upgrade from XP to Windows 7 directly. Microsoft is expected to offer upgrade discounts, but it is not possible on a software level to do that unless you upgrade XP to Vista first.)
