windows 7

My current computer is running vista and I bought myself the windows 7 upgrade disk (campus store already has ‘em in). What I want to know is what disk I should use to reformat my computer in the future; my old windows vista disk or the windows 7 upgrade disk I bought. Oh and by the way the guy at the desk said that the disk wouldn’t work until that magical day on October 22 when its officially released; any ideas what would stop me (unreleased drivers, the software is coded such, etc.)?

If you bought it today. You can install it any time you want.

you don’t have to reformat if you do the upgrade.

    I’m a Windows7 Ultimate 64bit user.

The upgrade disk needs to see a prior genuine version of Windows to install.

As long as you’re not installing to a blank drive, you should be fine with the upgrade disc. You don’t use the discs to “reformat.” Hang onto the Vista disc (and key) though just in case you ever need it again.

And if they’ve sold you the disc already there’s no problem using it. Plenty of people have already gotten pre-orders early, or their subscriptions are active just fine, etc. They just aren’t expected to release a lot of updates until October 22.
