Either should be the same for gaming -- no difference in that arena. Professional just adds a couple things like Group Policy controls. As long as you are using the upgrade version on a Windows Vista system (and not Windows XP), none of your old files will be lost. You may have to recreate some shortcuts for applications that are installed to other-than-normal directories, but nothing other than the core of Windows will be overwritten. Either one is fine for gaming, and I would lean towards Home Premium as it will be cheaper than professional.
