How Do I Switch Windows 7 Versions on Two Computers?

I get Windows 7 Ultimate for free from work, and I bought a laptop with Windows 7 home premium. I was wondering if there was a legal way for me to get home premium on my desktop computer, because I want the ultimate version to be on my laptop.

I realize this question has been answered a lot, but I’m looking for a answer specific to my question. Thank you.

Is It Better to Get Laptop With Windows 7 Starter Edition, or Buy Windows 7 Home Edition Disc for a Laptop?

I’ve heard the the starter edition has left out a lot of things compared to the Home edition. And I’m not really loving my laptop. So, would it be better to buy a new laptop that has Windows 7, but in a starter edition? Or to grin and bear it with the laptop I’m using now, and buy a Windows 7 home edition disc?

How Do Will It Take to Install Windows 7 Upgrade on Laptop?

I am getting a new laptop soon and it will include a free Windows 7 upgrade. Should I refrain from downloading a lot of programs on my new laptop till I install? How long will the install take — and will I need to backup my data before I start installation?

Windows 7 Will Be Unix Like?

See, MS have known for a long while that Linux and Darwin (OSX), are so much more efficient because they only ever require restarts when major kernel changes are made.

So windows 7 is likely to be more unix like in the fact that the GUI will run seperately from the kernel, as will explorer, more along the lines of Linux, or OSX, where the GUI can be shut down just leaving the console.

In fact, It seems likely that Windows 7 will not be very backwards compatible without something like wine.

That also means that Windows won’t be getting attacked by any viruses or malware any time soon!

Is this true? If it is then isn’t this good news?
