I am getting a new laptop which will be eligible for a free windows 7 home premium upgrade.

I also have windows xp on my desktop, will I be able to use the same serial number on my laptop and desktop?

Also, I have read that windows 7 uses less memory, etc and is faster just like xp.

I just upgraded my desktop to Windows 7 Pro, it will find everything on my wireless network except my laptop running XP home. I have ran through the network setup on both machines & restarted each. I only see how to setup a homegroup which requires W7 on each.

I’ve read conflicting information on different websites. And Microsoft’s website is not any clearer.

If I buy a Window 7 Home Premium Upgrade and perform a clean install, will this work coming from Windows XP Pro?

I’ve heard things like. Previous Pro versions can only be upgraded to Windows Pro, likewise, Home -> Home Premium and Ultimate -> Ultimate. Very confusing stuff.
So with upgrade disc. I can perform a clean install. From any version of XP to any version of Windows 7?

I just asked a question comparing XP with Vista and the feedback I got wasn’t that bad for Vista. But now, I also have the option of installing windows 7 on my laptop. It has 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. I want to make sure that it is ok to install W7 on my system. Will it slow it down? Should I just install Vista Home Premium? Or should I just stick with my current WinXP Home? The programs that I normally use are lightweight. I just need it for internet, and a few more small open source programs. Please give detailed answers!

i have windows 7 ultimate and i heard about windows xp mode and was wondering why it wasnt on my computer.

Does the windows 7 Home Premium version have XP mode? I’m planning to preorder it but don’t really want to pay an extra $50 just for xp mode in the Professional version.

Will I need to do a clean install for Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit if I have already Vista Home Premium 64bit? None of my software I use for handicapping horse racing is able to run on 64bit systems. The only thing it is able to run on is Windows xp 32bit and I have seen that Windows Ultimate 7 has a feature to run Windows XP compatible programs. Thanks for your help

I’ve heard that the Professional and Ultimate editions of Windows 7 will have a Windows XP mode to work with productivity programs? Do you think/know if this will work with games, too? Is it worth it to buy the Ultimate Edition or should I just get Home Premium?

Should I spend $90 on an OEM windows XP cd….or should I use Windows 7 RC for now and then buy Windows 7 when it comes out ?
