Just wondering, since today is the last open day, I want to try it out, but I have a lot of data I can’t lose.

Yes. If you format your computer and install a new OS, you will lose your data.

you shouldn’t but some data might be lost so try to save it on a disk or memory card before installing it

Don’t risk it unless you have a computer that you could throw away and be okay with it.
I want to try it, but I don’t have a throw away.

You shouldn’t loose any data by downloading a Windows application.

The setup lets you resize the partition tables so you can Dual boot, if you dont it will move everything from your old windows install to a WINDOWS.OLD folder, so you wont loose data as long as you dont format the drive. Its quite a pain though.

Lets see….
xp-vista………millions of pcs crashed…….
vista- windows 7…………? what will happen?

Just downloading it wont do anything at all.
To install it you have to do it on a new partition or only after formatting your hard drive.
So..if you are thinking you are going to “upgrade” your operating system, you are wrong.
Don’t bother downloading it. You don’t sound like you are capable of installing it anyways.

If you have partition in hard drive then windows must be in your C partition, so transfer your data from C partition to a DVD except window, then install window 7 it will replace your existing window in C, but if you have no partitions then you have to copy all data to DVDs except window then you can install windows 7 otherwise you will loose your data.

Have you heard the latest news?
Microsoft will be SELLING Windows 7 as a stand alone upgrade for all of us XP users.
That means we won’t have to wait for the new operating system nest year or so.
We can use our present hardware and viseo card etc and install the new Windows 7 as soon as it is for sale in the box as they say.
No hint of the price yet. My guess is $100 and it wil be well worth it since it will have the benefit of millions of dollars worth of work on Microsoft’s part to improve the present less than secure Wiondows.
In our computer club (600 members) most of us will stick with XP and buy the upgrade.
Microsoft HAD to do this since the business world were REFUSING to use VISTA.
Hope this news is of interest to you.

Just downloading will not affect your files.
Installing it will.
